As health & safety is becoming more & more under the responsibilities of management I have attended a course in safety officers training on management level & I have further plans to go through a safety officers course in due time.

I consider myself qualified for this position with 27 years experience, an engineering degree embedded, in the oil & gas construction sector, offshore & onshore. During my 27 years, I have gone through many positions in a construction project & learn each positions difficulties & how to control them.

• 6 Years, Managing Multi Disciplinary Projects Life Cycle Sequence As Project, Construction & Safety Manager. Have Now Gained Know How To Plan & Control Time To Limit Its Losses.

• 10 Years As Supervisor & Superintendent Became Respected In My Trade & Stepped Up To Management.

• 10 Years As Pipe & Structural Fitter, Welder & Foreman, Managed To Learn The Trade To Step Up & Lead.

This helps me on a project management level to identify areas of concern with a potential to develop to become a problem if not taken under that radar of control. Also as I have been going through positions in a project it have helped me to identify interfaces & keeping them under steady control, since this is where I consider potential loss of time. It’s also desirable to make the team understand the importance of communication, feedback & follow up, to avoid having activities falling in between chairs.

It’s a matter of controlling cost by controlling time & this can be supported by well defined plan, executed by experienced planners with hands-on experience & with concentration on the critical path, where you will be able to keep some of the interfaces under control & estimate directly involved manpower. It’s also desirable to have an interface controller or engineer on the project since interfaces are a potential for loss of time.

Since all costs cannot be controlled by controlling time it’s also important to have an experienced cost controller on your team to keep you informed of risks of navigating over the budget & how to avoid doing so & where costs can be cut without causing loss of pace & progress. It’s also best to identify & include cost saving activities before stepping into execution mode since there is a potential risk of losing pace & progress while implementing cost savings during execution.

Project preparations is the most important part of the project because this is when decisions are taken that will have an impact throughout the project!
