With experience and perhaps further training, a fisher may be promoted to the position of Skipper who, in addition to the above, may perform the following tasks: * organise the provision and storage of food * organise maintenance, preparation and operation of vessels * plan the operation of vessels to maximise profits by selecting fishing grounds and the nature and amount of processing to be carried out on-board * select the buyer to sell the catch to, and vary plans to take advantage of the best market conditions * safely operate and navigate vessels * make sure the catch is properly handled and stowed * hire and supervise the crew.
