The Bulldogs had a lot to prove on Tuesday after losing 5-0 to Kearney at the Greater Nebraska Athletic Conference tournament in Columbus just 10 days earlier. "(Kearney) probably came in thinking they were going to do the same thing to us today but I readjusted my defense, " NPHS coach Mary Elmshaeuser said. "My team did a really good job. I am really proud of our boys." The game got off to a very late start after the North Platte-Kearney girls' game was delayed for over an hour due to lightning and in the first half, both teams played each other to a stalemate as the game was scoreless at halftime. "They were motivated, " said Elmshaeuser. "Kearney's our rival and the reason we are so motivated to play them is because they're so good. They're good from the forwards to their mids to their fullbacks to their goalie." The game stayed scoreless for the entire second half and the game went into overtime.
