Thank author of this post/commentI am currently working for a company that is having a really hard time keeping it's head above water. They have had multiple things happen that have caused quite a slump in business. They currently are behind in 3 pay periods owing me about $2k. I called the unemployment offices today to ask them what my options were. (because I am not able to come to work any longer and not get paid and, I am not able to look for other employment while I am working at this job, but they have not laid anyone off yet - even though it really would be in the best interest of the company at this point). I asked the unemployment agency if I quit (because I feel I have a legitimate reason) am I eligible for unemployment until I can find another job? They did say my reason would probably deem me eligible, and that they would send paperwork to my employer to fill out. I am just curious, will my employer have to pay for part of the insurance? If so, what if they say i just quit. I do have evidence that they have not paid me in almost 2 months, but I'm just trying to figure out my options. I was under the impression that all companies just pay an unemployment tax, but don't pay for individual employees unemployment. Is this correct? (I live in Utah if that makes any difference.)
