Video: Meeteetse Youth Employment Program wins Workforce Partnership Award

Thank author of this post/commentThe Meeteetse Youth Employment Program is an innovative solution to workforce issues in the tiny town of Meeteetse, Wyo. (population 351). The program, funded through a partnership between the Wyoming Community Foundation, Wyoming Workforce Development Office, and individual donors pays the wages for local high school students who want to gain work experience through Meeteetse businesses. Before the advent of the program, students who wanted part-time jobs or summer jobs found themselves driving 30 miles one-way to Cody for employment, because local employers could not afford to hire extra (though much-needed) staff. This program, however, solves both problems. Each year, the Governor of Wyoming awards the Workforce Partnership Award to a project that demonstrated a unique collaboration between businesses and community organizations that include, but are not limited to, the workforce system, economic development and education which results in addressing a workforce issue. In 2009, this award went to the Meeteetse Youth Employment Program. This video shows Kandi Bennett of the Meeteetse High School, Angie Johnson of the town of Meeteetse, and John Fernandez of Meeteetse Recreation explaining the program in the interview that was shown during the award presentation. The partnership is remarkable. Local employers agree to take on students and teach them about their business while providing them opportunities to learn common work skills. this is very helpful for students to gain experience in working before landing a job. The Meeteetse Youth Employment program deserves to win the Workforce Partnership award. It will make the youth more knowledgeable about working and this will provide experience for young people. The experience that they will encounter will be helpful in dealing same circumstances in the future.

There are a lot of people who aim to work abroad for better opportunities and income. Most applicants have the option to apply through the help of recruitment agencies. This is better because they will have the chance to acquire assistance from the experts and those who have connections in the international companies.

Thank you for sharing the video. It is quite informative to many people aspiring a good job.

It is inspiring to see a town, even a small town getting involved with helping its young people get jobs and keep jobs. Youth unemployment is a world wide problem and it is hampering the economy everywhere as unemployed young people mean more young people get into trouble, they become a burden on their parents and society instead of helping them as they are originally meant to.

That is true. It was never that easy to be employed nowadays, especially when you are still at your early years of job hunting.

And these kind of help towards youth and keeping them updated with the current work trends and helping them out in acquiring and maintaining a good job is something really worth while.

And I think it would be much better if some more of this programs be established in the future.
